Play audio The old woman grew vegetables in the garden and took care of the washing. 👁Play audio One day, when the old woman went to the river to do the washing, she spotted something floating in the water. 👁Play audio As it drew nearer she saw that it was a shiny yellow peach. 👁

Play audio "This peach looks very tasty." 👁Play audio The old woman thought. 👁Play audio And before she arrived home, the peach was already eaten. 👁

Play audio Tired of work she went to bed early that day. 👁Play audio When she went to see her husband in the morning, the old man couldn't believe what he saw. 👁Play audio The old woman had become twenty years younger. 👁Play audio It didn't take long and the woman got pregnant. 👁

Play audio The two were very happy, as they had long wished for a child. 👁Play audio They named the boy "Momotaro". 👁Play audio Momotaro grew quickly and was known for his strength and cleverness all around the village. 👁

Play audio One day, a group of Oni came into the village and stole a large portion of their treasures. 👁Play audio The villagers cried out: 👁Play audio "Is there nobody who can help us?" 👁

Play audio When Momotaro heard this, he immediately ran to his parents and said: 👁Play audio "Mum, Dad, I'm going to Oni's Island to fight the Oni!" 👁Play audio The old man and the old woman were shocked and didn't want to let him go, but Momotaro was determined, and so they allowed him to leave. 👁

Play audio As a farewell gift, his father gave him his old sword. 👁Play audio Momotaro's mother made him four dangos, and the two said goodbye to their son with tears in their eyes. 👁
