Momotaro - The peach boy - Chapter 1
A long time ago, an old man and an old woman lived in a small house at the foot of a mountain. 👁 The couple loved each other very much, but they had no children. 👁 Both worked hard every day. 👁 Every morning, the old man went to the mountains to cut firewood. 👁 The old woman grew vegetables in the garden and took care of the washing. 👁 One day, when the old woman went to the river to do the washing, she spotted something floating in the water. 👁 As it drew nearer she saw that it was a shiny yellow peach. 👁 "This peach looks very tasty." 👁 The old woman thought. 👁 And before she arrived home, the peach was already eaten. 👁 Tired of work she went to bed early that day. 👁 When she went to see her husband in the morning, the old man couldn't believe what he saw. 👁 The old woman had become twenty years younger. 👁 It didn't take long and the woman got pregnant. 👁 The two were very happy, as they had long wished for a child. 👁 They named the boy "Momotaro". 👁 Momotaro grew quickly and was known for his strength and cleverness all around the village. 👁 One day, a group of Oni came into the village and stole a large portion of their treasures. 👁 The villagers cried out: 👁 "Is there nobody who can help us?" 👁 When Momotaro heard this, he immediately ran to his parents and said: 👁 "Mum, Dad, I'm going to Oni's Island to fight the Oni!" 👁 The old man and the old woman were shocked and didn't want to let him go, but Momotaro was determined, and so they allowed him to leave. 👁 As a farewell gift, his father gave him his old sword. 👁 Momotaro's mother made him four dangos, and the two said goodbye to their son with tears in their eyes. 👁
