Anansi - The keeper of wisdom

Play audio Once upon a time, there was a clever spider sage called Anansi. 👁Play audio The spider wanted to become the wisest man in the world and decided to collect every piece of Wisdom, he could find and keep it for himself. 👁

Play audio So he went out into the big, wide world and asked everyone he saw to share their wisdom with him. 👁Play audio Most of the people offered it right away, since someone who seeks wisdom must be a lot wiser than themselves. 👁

Play audio The spider sage placed every piece of wisdom, he could acquire into a bottle, made of an empty pumpkin. 👁

Play audio After years of hard work, the pumpkin was finally full. 👁Play audio Now Anansi had to decide where to hide all the wisdom, he had gained. 👁Play audio He came to the conclusion, that the best place to hide it would be at the top of a really large tree. 👁Play audio A tree so high, that only a spider could climb it. 👁

Play audio So he tied the bottle onto his belly and started climbing the tree. 👁Play audio But since climbing a tree with a big and heavy bottle in front of him was really difficult, he had to stop midway and take a break. 👁

Play audio At that moment, he heard his youngest son laughing from down below. 👁Play audio "Why did you bind the bottle to your belly? 👁Play audio Wouldn't it be much easier to carry it on your back instead?" 👁Play audio he shouted up the tree. 👁

Play audio Anansi thought 👁Play audio "I should give it a try." 👁Play audio And indeed, after binding the bottle to his back with his webs, he managed to climb up to the top of the tree without much trouble.

Play audio Having reached his goal, Anansi looked at the bottle, filled with all the wisdom in the world, and began to think: 👁Play audio "If even a small child was able to figure this out, collecting all this wisdom was in vain." 👁Play audio So Anansi opened the bottle and poured all the wisdom he had collected down to earth. 👁Play audio At that moment, he finally understood what true wisdom meant. 👁

Play audio Over time, more and more people started gathering under the tree and tried to collect the spilled wisdom, that had been released to the world. 👁Play audio Some only had a small spoon, others came with pots and buckets. 👁Play audio Everyone tried to collect as much wisdom as he could. 👁

Play audio And this is why wisdom is spread so unevenly among people. 👁
